Editing
After being a writing staffer for a year, I learned about the kinds of editing I found conducive and how I would emulate that when giving my own edits. When editing, I never make changes without providing alternative suggestions. I find that it is difficult to formulate entirely new ideas after writing a first draft, so I always give recommendations for staffers, especially writing staffers, to build off of. I tend to focus on the flow of articles in my edits, as I know from experience how challenging it can be to organize and condense information into a readable article. I often suggest reordering paragraphs in order to highlight the writer's best excerpts, as I did in the example to the left. I also work to make sure I am well versed in all aspects of editing, especially copy, so that I can provide comprehensive recommendations to article and caption writers.
