 Julia David-Hicks  

 

Julia is an artist, educator, art therapist, gardener, and minister.  Her favorite quote is from Lily Tomlin: “Somebody should do something about that. Then I realized, I am somebody.”


As an educator, Julia worked with K-12 in New York City public schools, undergraduates at Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY), and graduate students at the College of New Rochelle (NY). For the NYC Department of Education, she was part of Crisis Intervention Administration, and worked as a Technology Staff Developer.  She was a creative arts instructor at Louise Wise Service in NYC, working with pregnant teens. 


Julia was Assistant Director of Higher Education Opportunity Program at Pratt Institute. She was awarded an artist-in-residence grant from Parsons School of Design in NYC to study at Altos de Chavon, DR.  


Julia has a BFA and MPS CAT from Pratt Institute.  She received her Masters in Administration and Supervision from Mercy College in NY.


Through a grant from New York State Council of the Arts and the Brooklyn Museum, Julia created and directed a nonprofit artist gallery program, Brooklyn Underground.  Her artwork has been shown throughout the US and the Dominican Republic, and is in private and public collections.
