Hi, my name is Julia Mae Harrison! I'm incredibly passionate about the environment and love spending time outdoors. My interest in the environment and my love for math and science led me to pursue a career in environmental engineering. After enjoying water-quality-related research throughout my undergraduate experience, I began graduate school. Throughout graduate school, I've been motivated to research human exposure to pathogens in the environment and improve the monitoring of pathogens in estuaries.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling and birdwatching. While birdwatching, I typically take a lot of photos, some of which, I've compiled on the Photography page.
As an educated white cis person, I find it extremely important to acknowledge and be cognizant of the privileges I possess. It is also important to my identity to recognize that my low-income, rural upbringing influence my experience pursuing higher education. With this, I am dedicated to making my research relevant and aim to promote equity and inclusion in all that I do. Further, I am an avid supporter of LGBT+ rights, BIPOC equity, and the decolonization of science.
