Translation (French to English): Selections from Le cahier vert (The Green Notebook) by Maurice de Guérin in Your Echo Comes Back in Greek: a Festschrift for Rosanna Warren
My dissertation, "The Intelligence of Attention," argued for attention to the movement between literary form and observation of the natural world, through a series of comparative chapters on the work of English, American, French and Swiss poets and naturalists.
I am also working on a series of essays about ephemeral encounters, in and out of nature.
...and on a book manuscript, A Poetics of Birds, which focuses on one capacious, aesthetically charged form of life, and thereby examines the relationship between written language and the physical world. Organized into chapters that follow ornithological categories (egg, nest, flight, song, anatomy and morphology, etc.), I search lyric poems, natural history, nature writing, fiction and field guides, in English from the seventeenth century through the present, for forms of fidelity to the lives of birds.
