Judaism and Gender Difference.
Violence, Human Rights, and the Critique of Ideologies in the Thought of Contemporary Women Philosophers
PRIN (Progetto di Ricerca di rilevante Interesse Nazionale) 2022
The research project examines Judaism through the lens of difference by focusing on the lives and philosophical trajectories of Jewish women thinkers from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It explores how their Jewish backgrounds shaped both their personal histories—often marked by exile, persecution, and war—and their diverse intellectual paths, which frequently emerge implicitly in their writings.
Special attention is given to gender difference as a philosophical perspective. The project analyzes how these thinkers engage with gender and Jewish identity in complex and sometimes conflicting ways, ranging from affirmation to critical distance. By addressing Judaism and difference through the concept of identity, the project aims to identify the limits of dominant Western philosophical and ethical-political frameworks and to contribute to the development of a critical vocabulary capable of supporting more inclusive, equitable, and plural forms of social coexistence.
The group supports individual research while fostering collective discussion through seminars, workshops, and international conferences.
The team develops publications, journals, a philosophical-political lexicon, and translations of previously unpublished texts.
The group promotes public engagement and knowledge sharing through initiatives that disseminate research beyond academia.
