1. Overview

Job Hunt Buddy is a browser extension that helps you track job applications. This Privacy Policy explains what data the extension handles, how it is stored, and your rights with respect to that data.

3. Data We Collect and Why

Job Hunt Buddy is designed with a privacy-first approach. All data is stored exclusively on your own device and is never transmitted to any external server, third party, or cloud service.

3.1 Data collected in the current version (v1)

The extension currently collects the following data when you explicitly trigger a save action:

•       Job title: Job title

•       Job description: Job description text scraped from the listing page

•       Job URL: The URL of the job listing page

•       Application dates: The date you saved the job and, if manually set, the date you marked the application as submitted

•       Application status: Application status (Saved or Applied), set manually by you

No data is collected passively. The extension only reads page content when you explicitly click Save This Job.

3.2 Data collected in future versions (autofill)

A planned future version of the extension will include autofill functionality to help pre-populate job application forms. When this feature is introduced, the extension may additionally handle:

•       Your name, contact details, and work history for the purpose of completing application forms

•       CV or resume content you choose to provide

Consistent with the current version, all such data will be stored solely on your own device using your browser's local storage. It will never be transmitted to, processed by, or accessible to any external server or third party. You will be clearly informed before any new data types are collected, and you will have explicit control over what is stored.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

Where data protection law requires a legal basis for processing personal data, the extension relies on the following:

•       Consent: You initiate all data capture by clicking Save This Job. No data is collected without your explicit action.

•       Legitimate interests: Helping you track your own job applications is a legitimate personal interest that does not override your rights or freedoms. 

5. How Your Data Is Stored

All data is stored using your browser's built-in chrome.storage.local API (or its Firefox equivalent, browser.storage.local). This means:

•       Data resides entirely on your device, in your browser's local storage

•       Data is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted to any server

•       Data is not accessible to any website, third party, or external service

•       Data persists across browser sessions until you choose to delete it

 The extension does not use cookies, analytics, advertising trackers, or any remote storage service.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, share, or disclose your data to any third party under any circumstances. There is no third-party SDK, analytics library, or advertising network integrated into the extension.

Your data may only leave your device if you choose to use the export function (available in a future version), which downloads your data directly to your device as a file. 

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

•       Right of access: You can view all stored data directly within the extension popup at any time.

•       Right to rectification: You can edit saved job entries directly within the extension.

•       Right to erasure: You can delete individual job records or all data at any time using the delete controls within the extension.

•       Right to data portability: A future version will allow you to export your data as JSON or CSV.

•       Right to object / opt out: You can stop using the extension and delete all stored data at any time.

•       Right to withdraw consent: Because all data capture is triggered by you, you can simply stop using the extension at any time.

Because all data is stored locally on your own device, we have no ability to access, retrieve, or delete it on your behalf. All rights are exercised directly through the extension interface. 

8. Data Retention

Data is retained on your device for as long as you choose to keep it. You may delete individual entries or all stored data at any time through the extension. Uninstalling the extension will remove all associated data from your device. 

9. Children's Privacy

Job Hunt Buddy is intended for use by adults in the context of employment. The extension is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. International Users

Because all data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to any server, there is no international transfer of personal data. The data protection considerations that apply are those of the jurisdiction in which your device is located. 

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, particularly when new features (such as autofill) are introduced. When material changes are made, we will update the effective date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify users via the Chrome Web Store listing or extension update notes.

Your continued use of the extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
