Quito, Ecuador (July 21, 2025). I had the opportunity to share our joint work on fiscal incidence analysis with the Ministerio de Economía y Finanzas of Ecuador. Under the leadership of Gustavo Canavire-Bacarreza, we collaborated on the re-design and update of EcuSim, a fiscal microsimulation tool built on the Commitment to Equity (CEQ) methodology, to assess how tax and spending policy affect poverty and inequality in Ecuador.
The visit kicked off a two-day technical training with the Subsecretaría de Gestión Macroeconómica, aimed at strengthening the Ministry's in-house capacity to run this kind of analysis going forward.

Washington, D.C. (July 2, 2025). I had the honor of participating in the World Bank Summer University, where I contributed a methodological presentation on recent literature and learnings on adjusting top incomes and consumption in household surveys — a persistent challenge for accurately measuring inequality and poverty, given that household surveys tend to under-represent the top of the income and consumption distribution.
The session covered recent methodological advances for correcting these biases, drawing on approaches that combine survey data with external sources such as tax records and national accounts. At the Equity Policy Lab, I helped explore these approaches to improve income distribution estimates and developed practical code and resources to support their application to real-world datasets, so that the methods could be readily used by researchers and country teams working on inequality measurement.
Port Louis, Mauritius (May, 2024). I led a workshop on Fiscal Incidence Analysis and Tool, conducted by the World Bank Group in partnership with Maurice Stratégie, alongside Mario Negre (Senior Economist).
The Fiscal Incidence Analysis tool provides an overview of the poverty and distributional impacts of a government's entire fiscal process — from taxation to transfers and subsidies — across the areas covered under the Commitment to Equity (CEQ) methodology. It allows users to test the potential impact of changes in parameters determined by the type of government intervention.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Maurice Stratégie, Statistics Mauritius, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, and the Mauritius Revenue Authority participated in the workshop.
Bogotá, Colombia (mid-June, 2024). I helped conduct an intensive four-day hands-on training at the World Bank Group on a fiscal microsimulation tool tailored for Colombia. The tool is designed to evaluate the impact of a comprehensive pool of policies on poverty and inequality reduction.
It was an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and ideas with dedicated officials from the National Planning Department (DNP), the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. Their active participation and insightful contributions made the training a resounding success.
