My name is Juan Carlos González, and I'm an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at The Colorado College.
Before joining CC in the fall of 2025, I taught at Colby College, and prior to that, I earned my PhD in Philosophy at UC San Diego, writing a dissertation on Kant's third Critique under Clinton Tolley and cultivating research interests in Latin American and Latinx Philosophy with the guidance of Manuel Vargas.
My research spans Philosophy in the Americas (esp. Latin American Philosophy) as well as Modern (esp. Kant) and post-Kantian European Philosophy. My work within and across these traditions focuses on issues in Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Culture, and Value Theory. I regularly offer courses across all these traditions and areas. As an instructor, my goal is to simultaneously deepen my students' grasp of canonical philosophers and issues while directing them beyond the canon, toward lesser known but equally (sometimes more!) important thinkers, traditions, and topics.

Note: My first name, "Juan Carlos," is a two-part first name.
