La Paz is the highest capital city on the planet at about 12,000 feet above sea level! The higher up you go, the less oxygen in the air you are breathing. Because of that, people can develop symptoms of altitude sickness around 6-12 hours after arrival at a high altitude.

Symptoms include headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and nose bleeds. Your body will acclimate to the altitude increase within 2-3 days (A good reason to come early). But there are ways to prevent this from happening at all-- acclimate slowly each day, consider taking a diuretic (such as acetazolamide) at your doctor’s discretion. Drink lots of water, avoid strenuous exercise in the first few days, and avoid excessive alcohol consumption until your body is used to the change in altitude. Hotels will have oxygen available if you need. We will also have oxygen and medical attention at the wedding. Please reach out to Juan or Cami directly if you feel you need medical attention and we will take care of you!

Hi friends! We are so excited you are starting to plan your visit to La Paz. We recommend booking directly at one of these three hotels. They are close to all activities we are planning and walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, and shopping areas. If you plan to stay elsewhere, we highly recommend a hotel vs. Airbnb and to stay in the Calacoto neighborhood.

The airport that you will all be flying into is in El Alto and you will need to take a taxi or other arranged transportation from there to your hotel or airbnb. All of the hotels provide car services for approximately $20/per person. We recommend that you coordinate your transportation in advance. PS- Uber doesn't really work in the city.

Once in the city you can take taxis, preferably from the hotel, but make sure to agree on a price before you get in!
