Kazuhiro Ogata (JAIST) at Complutense University of Madrid

Kazuhiro Ogata (JAIST) Visits Complutense University of Madrid to Strengthen Research Collaboration in formal methods for Quantum Computing

Professor Kazuhiro Ogata, from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), visited the Universidad Complutense de Madrid on March 19 and 20, 2026, as part of an ongoing research collaboration with Adrián Riesco.

Professor Ogata, who previously supervised Dr. Riesco during his JSPS fellowship, continues to collaborate closely with him in the field of formal methods and quantum computing.

On Thursday, March 19, Professor Ogata delivered a lecture on the BB84 quantum key distribution protocol. The talk was open to faculty members and students, and was attended by several students from the Master’s program in Formal Methods, who are currently taking a course in quantum computing.

Later that day, Professor Ogata met with Dr. Riesco to discuss ongoing research on h-hop teleportation protocols and Shor’s algorithm. Additionally, both researchers jointly advised students interested in applying to the JSPS program.

On Friday, March 20, Professor Ogata held a meeting with members of the Diseño y análisis formal de sistemas de software (FADoSS) research group to further discuss these algorithms and explore future collaboration opportunities. In the afternoon, he met again with Dr. Riesco to continue discussions, focusing this time on Grover’s algorithm.

This visit reinforces the strong academic ties between JAIST and UCM and highlights ongoing efforts to advance research in quantum computing and formal methods.
