Young Investigator’s Award

Aims

Japanese Society for Medical and Biological Engineering (JSMBE) awards the Young Investigator’s Award (YIA) for young researchers who achieve high-quality research with noteworthy and original findings in medical engineering field.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the YIA;

1, You must be a member or a student member of JSMBE as of 20th June 2018, the 57th JSMBE conference. *1.

*1: You can join and get membership of JSMBE at the registration desk of the 57th JSMBE conference!

2, You must be younger than 40 years old in medical field, or younger than 35 years old in engineering field.

The researchers in medical field include persons who have medical license (e.g., doctor, dentist, pharmacist, nurse, and clinical engineer, etc.) and/or engage in medical/clinical/biological research. The researchers in engineering field include persons who engage in physics/chemistry/computer science/engineering research etc.


How to apply

Applicants can easily complete the application for the YIA by

1, go to “Call for Paper” in the 57th JSMBE website and check the box of “YIA submission” in the on-line abstract entry system.

2, upload the completed Application Form on the following link of this YIA site .


In general, the entry for the organized session that composes of only invited lectures is excluded from the YIA nomination.

Please note that “Call for paper “of 57th JSMBE website is going to be open on December 15th 2017.

Procedure and Award

1, Preliminary notification; The Young Researcher’s Working Group of JSMBE and expert researchers will review all entries, and will choose three applicants in each field (i.e., Medical field, Engineering field) to make presentations as “Finalists” at the YIA session. The submitted abstract and the above application form will be judged on their noteworthy, exploratory and original findings which will contribute to development and application of medical engineering.

2, Final nomination; Finalists will be expected to make oral presentations followed by a discussion at the YIA session. Award winners will be selected, based on oral presentation and the following discussion. Presentation and discussion will be made in English or Japanese language.

First prize will be awarded to one applicant, and second prize will be awarded to two applicants in each field. JSMBE and the Young Researcher’s Working Group will announce the results of the final nomination and confer the Awards to the Finalists during gala dinner on 20th June 2018.

Please note that Finalists will be also required to make presentation at general session i.e., they need to make presentations twice at the 57th JSMBE conference.
