Artemis I was launched on the 16th of November, 2022 and tested the capabilities of the flight systems and heat shield. This mission was an uncrewed mission and the spacecraft orbited around the moon rather than landing on it.
Artemis II is planned to be launched in September, 2025, and is the first crewed mission of the Artemis Program. The astronaunts onboard will perform a flyby of the Moon and return to Earth, marking the first humans to leave low-earth orbit since the Apollo Program!
In 2026, we will be sending humans to the moon again! Artemis III will lay the groundwork for Mars and beyond! Artemis III will be landing astronauts on the south pole of the Moon. I personally can't wait to see what comes from this!
Artemis IV, planned to launch in September 2028, will be the fourth use of the space launch system and the second time humans will have arrived on the moon since the 1970s! This mission will be focused on the installation of a new module onto the Gateway, and to give NASA scientists more time to work out the kinks of our Artemis Program!
Artemis V, planned to launch in March 2030, will be the first crewed flight of the Blue Moon lander, and is focused on the installation of two new elements onto the Gateway.
Artemis VI, the last and final mission of the Artemis Program, planned for March 2031, will be the last lunar landing and the installation of more parts onto the Gateway. After this mission, we will be entering a new age of spaceflight and travel, highlighted perhaps by the existance of a semi-permanent (or permanent) spacestation in low-moon orbit!
