General Santos City, November 11, 2024 – Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges (RMMC) welcomed Honorable Maria Teresita Dimaculangan, a distinguished representative of the Professional Regulatory Board of Accountancy (PRBOA), during the Professional Regulation Commission’s (PRC) physical monitoring.
Hon. Dimaculangan was warmly received by Dr. Marivic Peñaflor, Dean of the College of Business Education, alongside faculty members of the Accountancy program, including Krizza Farofaldane-Catigbe, CPA; Julie Ann Villaceran, CPA; and Mary Cris Lagahit, LPT. The visit highlighted the PRBOA’s commitment to maintaining excellence in the accountancy profession through transparent communication and collaboration with academic institutions.
The highlight of the visit was a special meet-and-greet session where students from the Accountancy program had the rare opportunity to interact with Hon. Dimaculangan. During the session, students expressed their curiosities and sought clarity on significant topics, including recent changes in the Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants (LECPA) and the rules regarding the use of scientific calculators.
Hon. Dimaculangan addressed these concerns with assurance, stating, “Using the scientific calculator is allowed as long as it wasn’t programmed,” a clarification that resonated positively with the students.
For many students, the experience was both inspiring and memorable. Christopher Gian Develos, a 2nd-year BS Accountancy student, shared, “I really thank God for the privilege of directly interacting with the PRC-BOA representative. Their insightful and optimistic perspective was truly inspiring. I look forward to meeting them again at the oath-taking ceremony.”
Similarly, fellow 2nd-year BS Accountancy student Jaeian Villazorda reflected on the experience: “One of the BOA members visited our school, and I was given the opportunity to experience it firsthand. Initially, I felt very nervous since it was my first time meeting someone so influential in the program I’m pursuing. At first, they seemed intimidating, but as they spoke about the greatness of the profession, I began to relax. Their humor also helped ease the atmosphere. They answered our questions clearly and in a way that we, as students, could easily understand. Moreover, the way she highlighted key updates and changes in the accountancy program was both engaging and insightful.”
The visit not only provided a platform for direct dialogue between future accountants and the PRBOA but also underscored the significance of fostering collaboration between academic institutions and professional regulatory bodies.
RMMC extends its heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Maria Teresita Dimaculangan and the PRC for their unwavering support and dedication to nurturing future professionals in the field of accountancy.
