May 30th 2024. This was when Mayke-arth and I started this site. We thought that it would be fun to create something with the Bluesky community, so I set things up and waited for people to contribute with their own building designs.
Soon, we started to receive entries from several artists who were interested by the idea, and every new submission made the virtual street livelier. And in March 20th 2026, a little bit under two years, we managed to finish two streets. I thank all participants from the bottom of my heart.
I strongly believe that human interaction and creativity are things to be cherished and fostered, and this is why I was eager to put this fun little activity in motion. By setting simple, but thorough guidelines, everyone was able to cooperate and create something that is greater than the sum of its parts.
In these two years, we had disheartening news about AI development, Data Centers and a full-scale war going on. It is becoming more difficult to stay creative: how can someone keep making art when the whole process is being ground to a pulp by Generative AI, and there are more pressing matters to worry about?
This, I think, is the goal of AI fascists: to destroy our humanity, reduce art to just "content", remove autonomy from the workers and demonize critical thinking. This is no exaggeration: by removing our artistic intent and by only generating things it think is beautiful, the AI homogenizes art and reinforces racist, misogynistic and ableist preconceptions.
And this is why I want to always fight for what I believe is right, which is bringing the community together and stimulate people to create. Only humans can imbue humanity into art.
It is in the hardest times that we need to shine the most, and while this might sound silly, I prefer to believe in human warmth than to accept defeat by oppressive CEOs and the government that enable them.
For those who chose to be part of this project and community, and to those who read this text until the end, my sincerest thanks. I believe in a better tomorrow for all of us.
