My name is Ari and I have a stupid sense of humor, an interest in community, eclectic art, crafting, and spreadsheets.
The Joy Squad Inspiration Catalog project combines all of those things quite nicely. As an Altadena resident trudging along the rough Eaton Fire recovery path, this joy project has been one of the few things that has not been frustrating, annoying or terrible.
Whether you are also in the Eaton (or Palisades) Fire recovery, or dealing with another natural disaster, or are "disaster recovery curious", I hope you will flip through the catalog for ideas to make the situation suck a little less.
This is a work in progress. The messy reality of 2025/2026 means this catalog is far from "perfect". I’d rather share it now than wait for a finish line that keeps moving.
Join the Joy Squad
(Not literally, there is no actual squad, just me) However, you are welcome to use the catalog and create your own local joy squad. I would love to add what you do to the catalog: altadenajoysquad@gmail.com
Altadena and surrounds Urban Art Map
Not really relevant unless you live near here, but it does showcase some of the catalog ideas, and could inspire you to create your own local urban art map.
An evolving map of the official and unofficial urban art - to submit a photo or an update please email altadenajoysquad@gmail.com
Please if you visit any of the locations, be respectful of the recovery and the property owners. Observe from the public thoroughfares and do steal or damage any of the art. If you do come from outside the area, consider contributing to one of the local charities as a way of giving back.
