• JOYROOM OE3 biggest strength: At just 4.9g per bud with an L-shaped clip and skin-friendly silicone, this is the pick for people who want the earbud to basically disappear on the ear.
• JOYROOM OE3 biggest trade-off: It uses a clip-on structure rather than a hook, so if you prefer the wrap-around security of a hook arm, this isn't that shape.
• ROEL-PLAY Open Ear biggest strength: Bluetooth 5.4 dual-chip with 38ms low latency plus a 360° spatial audio mode — it leans hard into gaming and video sync.
• ROEL-PLAY Open Ear biggest trade-off: It's ABS plastic with a hook design, so it's a bulkier, more traditional open-ear feel than a featherweight clip.
• Who JOYROOM OE3 is for: All-day wearers, glasses-wearers, and anyone who wants app customization and multipoint switching.
• Who ROEL-PLAY Open Ear is for: Gamers, commuters, and buyers who want visible battery info and a sporty hook fit.
The OE3's whole pitch is comfort engineered to vanish. Each earbud weighs 4.9g, and the L-shaped extended bridge is designed to hug the ear without pressure. JOYROOM explicitly contrasts this with traditional C-shaped earbuds, claiming the extended bridge reduces sound leakage while staying comfortable all day. The enclosure is high-elastic, skin-friendly silicone, which matters if you wear earbuds for hours and don't want hard plastic pressing on your ear.
On sound, you get a 13mm dynamic driver with a composite diaphragm, a multi-layer spatial audio algorithm, and a Bass Boost Mode for extra low-end. There's also AI ENC for calls. Two features stand out as genuinely practical: auto L/R recognition, which detects how you've put them on and assigns the correct channel automatically, and omni tap control, where the entire earbud body is a touch zone. That last one is quietly great — you don't have to hunt for a tiny tap spot, and JOYROOM notes it works with long nails or gloves. The JOYROOM Audio App adds EQ tuning, a low-latency mode, and a "Find My Earbuds" locator. Battery is rated 30 hours total with 24 hours in the case and a 2-hour charge time, over Bluetooth 5.4, with IPX4 water resistance and a 2-year warranty.
ROEL-PLAY Open Ear: Who It's For
The ROEL-PLAY takes the classic hook approach: 3-point ergonomic positioning, lightweight, zero ear pressure, and stable enough for running and workouts. The enclosure is ABS plastic rather than silicone, and the color is orange — a deliberate, sporty look rather than the OE3's all-black. If you've used open-ear buds before and liked the hook feel, this will feel familiar.
The audio side is where it gets interesting for a specific buyer. A composite high-low frequency diaphragm plus digital sound enhancement delivers 360° surround sound with punchy bass, and directional sound transmission is designed to cut leakage for privacy. There's a built-in ambient sound mode so you can hear traffic and surroundings. On calls, dual enhanced noise-canceling mics with noise reduction are meant to block wind and background noise. The standout spec, though, is the Bluetooth 5.4 dual-core chip paired with 38ms low latency — that's a gaming-first number, and it's the clearest differentiator between these two.
The charging case has an LED digital screen showing real-time battery for both the case and the earbuds, which removes the guesswork of "am I about to die?" You also get full touch controls (play/pause, track skip, volume, calls, voice assistant) and a sweatproof design. It supports single or dual-ear independent use and is broadly compatible with iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, Windows, phones, tablets and laptops. Warranty is 1 year.
Buy it if you game, you want a battery readout at a glance, or you like the hook fit and orange styling. Skip it if you want the lightest possible bud, app-based EQ and find-my-earbuds, or a longer warranty.
Side-by-Side: Which Should You Choose?
• Best for all-day comfort → JOYROOM OE3. 4.9g per bud, L-shaped clip, skin-friendly silicone.
• Best for battery visibility → ROEL-PLAY Open Ear. The LED digital screen shows case and earbud levels in real time.
• Best for battery longevity → JOYROOM OE3. Rated 30 hours total, 24 in the case, per the data sheet.
• Best for app control and customization → JOYROOM OE3. EQ tuning, low-latency toggle, and Find My Earbuds.
• Best for multi-device switching → JOYROOM OE3. Dual-device multipoint for phone and laptop.
• Best for privacy against sound leakage → ROEL-PLAY Open Ear. Directional sound transmission is a stated design goal.
• Best warranty coverage → JOYROOM OE3. 2 years versus 1 year.
• Best for a sporty hook fit and bold color → ROEL-PLAY Open Ear. 3-point ergonomic hook in orange.
In my opinion, the JOYROOM OE3 is the better all-rounder for most people. The 4.9g weight, silicone build, auto L/R detection, omni tap control, multipoint, app features and 2-year warranty add up to a more complete daily-wear package. I'd only steer you to the ROEL-PLAY if gaming latency and a visible battery display are your top two priorities — the 38ms figure and LED screen are genuinely useful there. Decide which of those two needs matters more to you, and the choice is easy. Either way, check the current price on Amazon before you commit.
"Better" depends on your priority. The OE3 wins on comfort, app control, multipoint and warranty length. The ROEL-PLAY wins on low-latency gaming, a battery display and leakage control. For general daily use, I'd lean OE3.
Both are built for movement. The OE3 uses a secure clip-on fit with IPX4 water resistance. The ROEL-PLAY uses a 3-point hook and is described as sweatproof. If you want the lighter, lower-profile option, go OE3; if you prefer a hook, go ROEL-PLAY.
Do these earbuds leak sound?
The data sheet rates the JOYROOM OE3 at 30 hours total with 24 hours in the case. ROEL-PLAY describes long composite battery life and shows it on an LED display, but doesn't state a total-hour figure. On the numbers given, the OE3 is the clearer pick.
The JOYROOM OE3 explicitly supports dual-device multipoint switching between phone and laptop. The ROEL-PLAY supports broad compatibility with iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, Windows and laptops, and single or dual-ear independent use, but multipoint isn't stated.
