After graduating in Telecommunications Engineering (2010) and obtaining an M.Sc. in Information and Communication Technologies (2012) both from Mondragon University, I joined the Signal Processing and Communications group from the same university, where I developed my Ph.D. thesis entitled 'Functionality and Dependability Assurance in Networked Scenarios' defended in January 2015 (you can download it here).
During my Ph.D. I was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Hull (Kingston Upon Hull, UK) at the Dependable Intelligent Systems team led by Prof. Yiannis Papadopoulos, which resulted in a sustained and active collaboration. During my Ph.D. I was also a Visiting Researcher at CAF Power & Automation company, where I developed a proof-of-concept for my Ph.D.
In February 2015 I joined the Institute for Energy & Environment (Electronic & Electrical Engineering Department) at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland (UK), where I worked with Prof. Stephen McArthur, Prof. Brian Stewart and Dr Vic. Catterson. During my postdoc projects I worked with different power and energy companies to develop prognostics and health management solutions for condition monitoring of power transformers, circuit breakers and cables, as well as substation level risk indicator models. Most of the developed models have been deployed as end solutions to assist engineers in the decision-making process of power components. Project partners included Bruce Power, EDF Energy, Babcock International and Kinectrics. I also established collaborations with DNV - Maritime, which is an international classification society.
After a fruitful period in Scotland, I returned back home in 2019 and from February 2019 to August 2024 I was a Lecturer & Researcher at the Signal Processing and Communications Group (Electronics & Computing Department) at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, and from January 2021 to January 2023, I was a Juan de La Cierva Incorporación Fellow funded by the Spanish Research Agency.
As of September 2024, I am a Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Department, Intelligent Systems Research Group, and from September 2020, I am also an Ikerbasque Research Fellow.
My main research interests include a number of interdisciplinary areas such as machine learning, Prognostics & Health Management (PHM), reliability engineering, forecasting and uncertainty. The main application areas of my research are focused on intelligent energy systems, renewable energy and smart grids.
