Breaking the News - Live Film Screening

A group of women and LGBTQ+ journalists, bucking the white male status quo, launch The 19th*—a digital news startup that asks who has been omitted from mainstream coverage and how they can be included.

Breaking the News documents the honest discussions at The 19th*, a Texas-based digital news start-up around race, gender, and identity equity, revealing that change doesn’t come easy. 

Attendees will have a chance to network with Julie Lynem and Neil Chase, CEO of CalMatters, following the screening.

In this panel, we explore how SLO can tackle the dual housing crises of a high-cost coastal-adjacent city and a California college town, and talk about solutions.
