Jackson pollock helped inspire my print with the loose but controlled movement within his work. It gave me a flow when painting but also a type of precision- work that inspired me.
These were my finalised prints that were put onto my garments, they gave the depth and tone I was looking for to represent the spillages from the insides of the animals during the taxidermy procedures.
The 2006 horror film, Taxidermia, directed by György Pálfi had some influence with the development of this collection. The images below are stills from the film. These images in particular, gave me a tormenting vibe, that led me to want to combine the beauty of preserving animals and with a graphic, almost eerie look. My collection became a influenced with a print that depicts some dark undertones; the gruesome journey they animals go through to be preserved. I wanted the garments not to be of the obvious botched representation of taxidermy. I designed with the skeleton of the creature in mind and based the form of the garment around, this like flesh, with the layering of print and almost stitched like tying.
I bought a preserved crocodile head and used it as an accessory in the shoot. These images show initial, experimental draping which led me to a less obvious animal / taxidermy outcome. It was important for me to do this to test every option, even though I found this too literal.
