Black History Month

Dr. Carter G. Woodson established Black History Month in 1915 to honour Black Americans from all eras of American history, including enslaved African Americans and contemporary African Americans who have made substantial contributions to society.

US President Gerald Ford formally recognised it in 1976 with the intention of bringing attention to the historical and cultural achievements made by African Americans to the nation.

Reggae Month 2024

The Jamaican government declared January as Reggae Month in 2008 to honor the cultural and economic contributions of reggae music.

February was designated due to its Black History Month and the birth of reggae icons Bob Marley and Dennis Brown. Events, concerts, and lectures are organized in Kingston.
