“The purpose of education should never be to meet the needs of children; what a lowly aspiration this is that help keep kids in their place--the rich man in the castle, the poor boy and girl at the gate.” (Hattie & Zierer, 2017)

My teaching philosophy is heavily influenced by experiences I had growing up in my mom's classroom and reading a lot of X-Men comics. Being a "teacher's kid," I was privy to a lot of the behind-the-scenes work (and fun) that encompasses the life of professional educators. And I loved it! Reading X-Men comics reminds me to view students as individuals and empower them with general knowledge AND recognize their individual strengths.

I've been fortunate to have had multiple roles in education, including classroom teacher, university researcher, and state director. I hope to share my experiences, connect, collaborate, and get to know each other better as professionals!
