Refurbished

Refurbished is a three player competitive card game where you control a gladiator robot in an intense battle! Inspired by the simple game of rock-paper scissors, in Refurbished each player plays their turn simultaneously. Each round the players selects a robot ability card. Once done, they reveal these cards and sort out the devastating effects! Don't worry if you lose a round however, as each round you can receive upgrades to empower your robot! Can you survive the arena?

For this project I was the lead gameplay designer. The game was based off an idea I had for years, and I was super excited to finally get to develop it. My role on the project focused mostly on the mechanics design, as well as being an active member for the testing/development process. Additionally, I wrote the rulebook for the game.

These are the ability cards I designed for the game. Each card went through significant development and testing to reach their final states. The cards for the game were made in Adobe Illustrator by our teams wonderful artists.

The game uses these simple placemats to indicate important gameplay details. Each player gets a mat and places it directly in front of themselves. These are used to track important gameplay mechanics such as targeting, health points, and discards.
