178th Wing lands MQ-9 Reaper, commencing Advanced Wrath exercise
SPRINGFIELD-BECKLEY AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ohio — Airmen from the 178th Wing landed an MQ-9 Reaper at Springfield-Beckley Air National Guard Base on Monday, March 10. This marked the second consecutive year the unmanned aerial vehicle has flown to the base. The exercise, known as Advanced Wrath, is designed to enhance the operational capabilities of the MQ-9 Reaper while supporting a variety of joint operations with other agencies.
Ohio National Guard chaplains build relations with Serbian Armed Forces
Three chaplains and a religious affairs specialist from the Ohio National Guard visited Serbia as a part of the State Partnership Program between chaplaincy programs. The week-long visitation was intended to strengthen relationships that enhance global security, understanding and cooperation between the two partners.
178th Airmen finish Murph Challenge, commemorate fallen
Airmen assigned to the 178th Wing completed the first annual Murph Challenge at the 178th Wing on May 8 at the on-base fitness center here. The challenge consists of a one-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats and another one-mile run. If a participant wanted to make it more challenging a weighted vest is often added.
2024 Northern Lightning exercise concludes at Volk Field
2024 Northern Lightning, a two-week joint-training exercise held annually at the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center, concluded on Aug. 18, 2024. The exercise involved more than 1,000 servicemembers from nearly 25 units from all across the country. This year’s iteration included the U.S. Air Force, Army and Marines along with their respective reserve and national guard components, preparing its participants for near-peer threats as well as the integration of fourth and fifth generation fighter aircraft.
