Vision: Joseph Smith Preparatory Academy provides a principles-based education, founded in the search for Truth, and a reliance on our Savior, Jesus Christ
This vision is being accomplished in multiple ways:
by striving to assist in God's work and glory with all our heart, might, mind, and strength
by striving to build a world of individuals and families who love Truth, diligently seek it, and, once they find it, strive to appropriately live it and share it
by providing individuals and families with educational materials that are principles-based, that assist in the search for Truth, and that encourage us all to rely upon our Savior, Jesus Christ
John Taylor recounted a time when the Prophet Joseph Smith said: "I teach them correct principles and they govern themselves." (Millennial Star, November 15, 1851)Â This is an important aspect of the Lord's work in helping us; He wants us to learn to govern ourselves according to true and eternal principles.
President Ezra Taft Benson taught: "The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature." (October 1985 General Conference) How does the Savior do this? One way is that He invites and encourages us to find and learn to live according to truth.
This is a major goal of Joseph Smith Prep, to focus on learning true and eternal principles; and not only to learn about them, but to live by them, to change our thinking, our behavior, to align ourselves with correct principles.
