Joseph Scarfone PhD in Administration Student, Accounting Area Schulich School of Business
York University
I am a first-year PhD student in accounting at the Schulich School of Business, York University. My research examines how audit, disclosure, and accountability systems shape firm, professional, and institutional behaviour. I primarily use archival methods, including both quantitative and qualitative archival analysis.
My main empirical research stream studies the real effects of reporting mandates, assurance institutions, and regulatory shocks on information production, risk assessment, and organizational decision-making. A complementary mixed methods stream examines the professional and public institutions that enforce accountability systems, with a focus on how organizations and professionals are classified, evaluated, and disciplined.
Prior to my PhD, I completed an SSHRC-funded MES in Sustainability Management at the University of Waterloo, an MSc in Financial Analysis at London Business School, and an HBA in Business Administration at Ivey Business School.
I am currently seeking an international visiting PhD student role for Fall 2027 or Winter 2028 term and am eligible for external funding as an SSHRC doctoral award recipient.
