Joseph Rodriguez

I am a PhD candidate in political science at Duke University, specializing in political theory. My research interests lie in environmental political thought, constitutional law and design, and theories of rights and property. My work examines what it means for rivers, forests, and other natural entities to hold rights—and how humans can legitimately speak on their behalf. 

I have held fellowships at the Center for Biological Diversity, the Library of Congress, the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, and the Yale School of the Environment. Before beginning my doctoral studies, I studied philosophy and political science at the University of California, Berkeley.
