Title: How the alphabet was made

Medium: Mixed Media Sculptural Assemblage

Reading to children helps develop their language skills and are key tools the brain uses in understanding the world and our experiences. Research shows that storytelling is an essential social activity, as it helps forge memory patterns within our body, aiding our understand of concepts such as culture, people, places and enhances our problem-solving skills.

Some argue that with the advancement of modern technology and the increased consumption of screen-time, many children are missing out on these critical neurological social experiences and that key developmental skills are being lost.

I created this mixed media sculptural assemblage, as a response to my research into this topic and in hope that this work will provide an opportunity for reflection. The work consists of red felt balls, twine, clay and a storybook on how the alphabet was made.
