Joseph A. Cradlebaugh, Ph.D.

Dr. Joe Cradlebaugh currently serves as Professor of Organic Chemistry at Jacksonville University. Joe grew up in the Indian Rocks Beach - Largo area of Florida and showed an interest in the sciences from an early age. Upon completion of high school, he enrolled at the University of North Florida where he graduated with a B.Sc. in chemistry in 2000. It was as an upper-level undergraduate student that Joe developed an interest in organic chemical research, especially structure-reactivity effects involving fluorinated organic compounds. These interests took Joe to the University of Florida where he joined the research group of William R. Dolbier, Jr. Joe studied fluorinated organic free-radical chemistry and earned his Ph.D. in 2005. Joe then accepted a postdoctoral fellowship with Leo A. Paquette at The Ohio State University where he worked on a number of projects, including the synthesis and reactivity of sultams and synthesis of the natural product Pinnatin A.

Joe continues to conduct research in the area of free-radical trifluoromethylation methodologies and the history of chemistry. While not immersed in such activities, Joe can usually be found at the beach and spending time with family.
