Art is a process of exploration, problem-solving, and growth. Every project begins with an idea, but as that idea takes shape, challenges naturally arise, whether it’s shaping a clay bowl to match your vision or troubleshooting a firing issue in the kiln. These moments aren’t setbacks; they are opportunities to think critically, adapt, and discover new techniques.
Learning happens in the act of working through those challenges. When students seek out solutions, experiment with new approaches, and reflect on what isn’t working, they build skills that extend far beyond the art room. This same mindset applies across all areas of learning, especially when facing difficult questions, mistakes, or uncertainty.
In my classroom, mistakes are not failures; they are starting points. Every incorrect answer, every unexpected result, is an invitation to grow, refine understanding, and try again. Art becomes more than creating; it becomes a way of thinking that empowers students to approach challenges with confidence and curiosity.
