The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.
During this presentation about the teaching strategies on cerebral palsy my eyes were opened. This presentation details a few things. It shows what cerebral palsy is and some of the causes of it. The main thing shown is the strategies on how to teach students with cerebral palsy. I created this for my SPED 216 class on November 12, 2019.
In the teaching standard it talks about using teaching strategies to maximize the students learning. In the presentation it shows different way as to accomplish this. Things as simple as having comfortable seating is a great way to accomplish this.
In my development as a teacher this is something key for me to know. Some of these strategies, in my opinion, would be great to use in almost all classrooms regardless of having students with a disability. While doing this presentation I learned a lot. Not only did I learn things about cerebral palsy, I also learned things about myself and who I want to be as a future teacher. It showed me the importance of the little things you do in a classroom especially with students with disabilities.
