Joseph Alexander Guerra is a Miami-born postminimalist composer whose music draws on electronic music and jazz. He layers rhythms and melodic fragments to create dense, saturated textures, exploring how overlapping ideas interact and transform.
Guerra holds a bachelor’s degree in composition from New World School of the Arts and a master’s degree from Florida International University. He has worked with Miami Pixel Symphony as its resident bass guitarist and orchestra technician.
His influences include Justice, Daft Punk, Christophe Chassol, and Carpenter Brut. His electronic work Drive pays homage to Carpenter Brut, while Three Time Settings for Orchestra draws inspiration from composers including John Adams and Michael Torke.

Guerra gratefully acknowledges the guidance of his teachers and mentors: Angel Hernandez at Miami Dade College, Dr. Susan Epstein at New World School of the Arts, and Dr. Orlando Garcia and Dr. Jacob Sudol at Florida International University.
Outside of composing and performing, Guerra enjoys photography as another creative outlet.
For Guerra, composing begins with curiosity: following a sound, discovering where it leads, and shaping it into something worth sharing.
