Beginnings

Things in life often unfold in ways we do not expect. I found this to be true once more when my modest work of service in interspiritual publications, together with some gentle prodding from loved ones, opened the way to my first book.

Looking back, this service work had its beginnings long before it started to take shape: a seed planted during those early days of youth when one first notices the suffering in our world. Or perhaps even earlier, during childhood moments of awe and wonder — and existential questioning. Not that I already saw it on the horizon at the time, for I was unaware of the path I was already walking and being led along. Coming to see that what we perceive as our "external world" is but a mirror reflection of our own state of consciousness, I felt that the best place to start easing suffering "out there" was "within." And so, while I moved through life giving care to family and stumbling upon many gems along the way, I also passed through one faith and practice after another, and through more spiritual communities than I can now readily recall.

And then it happened. It was in the company of fellow pilgrims in interspiritual circles, whose shared compassion for all of creation inspired me no end, that the One Life gradually led me behind the pen, drawing me into the work of putting out community collections of writing that point beyond words as another way of serving.

A Deeper Realization

From there, the work grew from a deeper realization of what religious founders and mystic saints have taught through the ages: that our illusion of duality and separation lies at the root of this suffering, and that awakening to our essential Oneness through direct experience holds the key to healing ourselves and our world.

More joyfully, this work also reflects the glad tidings found across the world’s great spiritual traditions and echoed in Jesus’ teaching that the “Kingdom of Heaven is within us and in our midst” — for we have never really left Home, but have only fallen asleep in this dreamworld of time, space, form, and apparent separation. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are all on a journey of awakening to our True Nature, carried forward by the evolutionary impulse of our divine unfolding across lifetimes — however gradual the process of lesson-learning and self-emptying that leads to it may be. And thankfully, this inner transformation can be quickened through meditation and contemplative practice — humanity's quintessential means for waking up to who we really are, as wonderfully exemplified by the many inspiring saints and sages who have arisen from among monks, nuns, and mystics like St. Anthony of Egypt, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Therese of Lisieux, Rabia al-Adawiyya, Dogen Zenji, Sri Ramakrishna, and so on.

Offerings of the Heart

For more than two decades, I have had the humbling yet happy privilege of contributing pieces of writing to publications devoted to spirituality, interfaith understanding, perennial wisdom, the timeless principles of universal love and peace that flow from the Unity of All Life, and other related subjects, while also serving as editor, chief editor, and designer. Through these offerings of the heart, I have been able to do my little part in the compassionate work of two interspiritual communities whose publications ultimately invite us to awaken to that which is beyond words and concepts.

Blessed with the opportunity to write the book, Love Never Goes Away: Reflections on the Unity of All Life, I offer my deepest thanks to the Divine and to all of creation, through whom and from whom this and other labors of love have come forth in our interbeing.

My editorial work includes Theosophical Digest, Peace Ideas, The Philippine Theosophist, and Pahingalay. I am presently working on my second book, A Seeker’s Journey: On Alien Gods, Ultimate Reality, and Other Hidden Mysteries in the Search for Truth.

This website brings together the books, writings, and publications that form part of this work, which I am very glad to share with you. Together, they delve into the deeper dimensions of life and reality from a contemplative perspective and invite reflection on the timeless wisdom found at the heart of all the world’s great religions and authentic spiritual traditions, with an emphasis on the primacy of direct experience of Ultimate Reality or the Divine in the spiritual journey.

It is also a space for sharing ideas and insights on the Unity of All Life, interspirituality, consciousness, spiritual practice, ways of alleviating suffering in our world, and related themes — as well as an invitation into the silence beyond words.
