Selected Student Feedback:
On Course Content:
"My learning experience in this course has been highly engaging and rewarding. The assignments were both challenging and practical, helping me deepen my understanding of the subject matter. Feedback was timely and constructive, which enabled me to improve my work. The learning materials were well-organized, and the interactive activities, especially group discussions and peer reviews, helped me apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. I also appreciated the instructor's approachability and willingness to clarify doubts, which enhanced the overall learning experience."
"I think professor garcia did a great job of structuring the course and I enjoyed the way he taught the information to us. He gave us the perfect amount of homework assignments to study for the exam, a group presentation, and 3 exams. All of which, I think were fair and he gave feedback on if you wanted it."
"I liked this class more than I thought I would. For an economics course, this was surprisingly cross-discipline, and was not as focused on economics (to the point of losing sight of everything else) as most courses tend to be. The professor was fair, exams and work were tough but doable provided you went to class."
"It actually relates to topics in todays politics which I enjoy. The most useful Economics class I have had at Penn State because it explains policies and why big companies make the decisions they do every day."
"This course has been incredibly informative and refreshing during a difficult semester. Professor Garcia has done a great job providing all the necessary tools, whether that is the class materials, feedback, or general instruction, to succeed."
"I liked how detailed the slides were and how he walked through every step of every problem so I fully understood the concepts. I liked that we had time to do problems on our own and then have him solve them so I could see what things I didn't understand or needed to work on. The instructor was welcoming to questions and engaged in class discussion that stemmed from people asking further questions about sprts league"
On the Teaching Environment:
"As I said before, he invited questions from the class and went through things over again if someone did not understand a concept. Walking around while we were working individually on our problems allowed the professor to see the confusion students may have that they are afraid to share."
"He has a warm heart and welcoming to share with his knowledge for the class."
"The first time I showed up to class, the professor had my name memorized along with everyone else's name in the class. It caught me off guard, however, it made you want to pay attention in class significantly more."
"I liked learning about trade policy that was relevant today, such as the lessons on tariffs and applying it to what policy makers are saying. I felt he approached sometimes political material in a way that’s educational and theoretical making everyone feel comfortable."
"The instructor is welcoming every student who needs help with the course, giving attention to every student equally, and making an inclusive environment in the classroom."
"Very interactive lecture made learning the material in class more effective. Problem Sets were good for reinforcing the material on our own. Study materials for exams made preparing for exams more fulfilling."
"I always felt comfortable asking a question either before or after class. We were allowed to work with each other on in-class problems and even pick our own presentation groups. Students were often called upon to give real world examples of class topics on sports that they liked that perhaps Jorge wasn't as familiar with, which I thought was a neat way to get the class involved in the lectures."
