More about the making of Jordan's Mom
On October 18, 2023, the day Jordan’s earthly life ended, my stepmom asked me, “Is now the time?” I knew what she meant. Years earlier, I had written the first ten chapters of our story, then stopped when I reached the part I could not bear to write. The pages had waited while Jordan grew up and we lived twenty-three more years together.
When I returned to the manuscript, I had more than memory to guide me. I had scrapbook photo journaling, hundreds of emails sent to praying family and friends, and pages of handwritten thoughts and prayers. The materials pictured here helped me step back into those first two and a half years of Jordan’s life.
As I wrote, I wanted to honor the younger mother I found on those pages. She did not know what the next scan would show or how much time she would have with her son. I did not want hindsight to smooth away her fear and questions, or make her faith appear steadier than it sometimes was.
I finished Jordan’s Mom to give thanks and glory to God for His faithfulness through those uncertain years. I also share it for anyone who has loved someone deeply while having no control over what comes next. I hope you find something in our story that helps you feel seen and a little less alone.
