We have loads of great unreleased music in our volts, and it's been much too long since the last time we actually dropped something. Life happened - and death, too.
Today the EP called Right as Rain has been released and is available in all major streaming services. It’s a 5-track collection about staying upright in a sideways world - rain as grief, rain as memory, rain as a friend. Warm, wistful, and a little defiant.
The focus track is Some People - a foot-tapping, sly character piece about the quirks that make us human. Some may remember the earlier single Americay (July 18), a slow-burn ballad about disillusionment with the American dream. Together, they bookend the sound and spirit of the record.

While there won't be any new Joordan Mackay songs, we're considering releasing a couple of albums featuring music created between 2016 and 2023. So, consider yourselves forewarned!
In the meantime, we invite you to listen to "Memories of You," penned by Bob Love from Tennessee, USA, in collaboration with Petteri Laakso. 🎶 --> https://songwhip.com/boblove/memories-of-you

Joordan Mackay's upcoming single release, "Oh, You Must Have Been a Most Beautiful Baby," delves into life's profound questions, primarily from a masculine perspective.
The vocals on the single are provided by Tampere's own J. Caven, renowned for his acclaimed, ruggedly raucous troubadour style, also known to heavy music enthusiasts as the lead singer and guitarist for the band All Rise.
The single will be released on March 15th, 2024.

The songwriting collective Joordan Mackay is known for its fearlessness in exploring various musical genres. Many of their previously released songs draw inspiration from English, Irish, and Scottish traditions. However, this time, they pay homage to their roots by releasing an entire series of singles with a folk music flair.
The first installment of the series, titled "Spike Milligan," takes its name from the groundbreaking Irish comedian whose pioneering radio and TV comedy from the 1940s to the 1980s paved the way for later British humor giants like Monty Python. Despite the seemingly cheerful demeanor of the song, it delves into deep waters, reminiscent of the real-life experiences of Milligan.
The song features guest artist Jarie, also known as Jari Sirniö, specializing in Celtic music. Jarie is actively involved in both troubadour work and playing Irish and Scottish folk with the kilted group Isara and the Soul Prophecy duo, which releases music in the folk-rock and melodic metal genres.

To Joordan Mackay's fans and friends,
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Joordan Mackay's co-founder, Juhani Salminen, on October 21, 2023, due to a severe heart condition. We will remember Juhani as a beloved friend and a talented, unique writer and musician, whose legacy will live on through his lyrics.
Though Juhani is no longer with us, Joordan Mackay's work continues. Our next release will be a single titled "Spike Milligan," named after the renowned comedian, with lyrics written by Juhani in 2021. Juhani described Milligan as "my greatest love in the world of comedy."
Warm regards,
Joordan Mackay's Team

The album Suicide Chickens and Other Love Songs features the acclaimed jazz/roots singer Juki Välipakka on lead vocals, guitar and trumpet.

Guest musicians on selected tracks: Sirpa Suomalainen (flute), Johannes Salomaa (sax), Harri Taittonen (organ, piano), Kari Cavén (bass).

"I Know, Man a song about all the places the protagonist has never been to – Alabama, Albuquerque, New York… and some of the strangest things you might find out there. Stylistically it’s as if Steely Dan had met 70’s Elvis in an agoraphobic shuffle with a jarring bass riff and New Orleans-style horns."
Featuring Juki Välipakka (vocals) and Johannes Salomaa (sax). 🎷
I Know, Man is the first single from an upcoming album.

We've been working with a number of songs during last few years with Jukka Saarila. Three songs have been released earlier. This new single include some of our favorite songs we've cut with him. You could argue that these are leftovers because they've be recorded more than a year ago. But the truth is that we have been saving these for the right moment to bring light to the darkest time of the year.
This release has three songs, all of slightly different genres: Prima Ballerina, Gotta Run This Body Down and Number Seven in Hillbilly Heaven. Available in practically all streaming services.

Something new and different is brewing! Last winter we invited singer Jussi Kari (Voice of Finland finalist a few years back) to take part in our melancholy project.
We came up with three new songs which could be described as arctic, Nordic, raw, simple and beautiful, mostly with acoustic instruments. We'll label it as indie folk, and it will be available in all major streaming services on September 24th, 2021.

Last few months has been pretty intense with several production and collaboration projects. One of the biggest projects has been the mini album In One Fell Swoop, Pt.1 with Juki Välipakka on lead vocals. Seven songs, stylistically quite varied, "americana" probably being the common denominator.
Apart from singing, Juki also plays guitar, harmonica and trumpet on some tracks. Juki also invited some great guest artists: Olli Haavisto (dobro, pedal steel, lap steel), Harri Taittonen (Hammond B3, piano), Tommi Lievemaa (mandolin), and Sirpa Suomalainen (tenor saxophone).

Apart from being busy with our own album with Juki Välipakka and some great guest musicians we've been working with Anne Arffman on her solo debut. She sang lead vocals on two of our Protest Songs but now she's doing a single and an EP on her own name, and in Finnish.
The first single is called Kissankello, heinänkorsi which was also written by us. The four-song EP will follow shortly.
