I will conduct and guide a choir through a piece that will challenge them and myself in music theory, rhythms, vowels, diction, and all other things required to help us learn more about the depths of music. The choir I will conduct is the Advanced Choir in my high school, of which I am also a member.
The choir consists of ten members: three altos, three sopranos, and four baritones. Along with instructional guidance, I will be directing the performance either in an in-person setting or virtual. But either way, the performance will be viewed by fellow school staff and students as well as friends and families. It will take place during the 3rd quarter of the school year.
By collaborating with my fellow choir members and getting their thoughts and ideas on what they look for in a choral piece, the piece I have chosen is “Glow” by Eric Whitacre, published by Hal Leonard. It is a 3-part mixed piece with splits for altos, sopranos, and baritones. It will challenge my music knowledge and the choir’s.
Eric Whitacre is a profound and well-known musical composer and director, not only in the choral industry but as well in orchestra and band. His pieces are also known for challenging the musical ear. I believe his piece “Glow” will allow members in the choir to challenge themselves and allow them to express their musical feelings.
