This lesson came as a part of the unit plan revision for culturally responsive teaching (CRT) methods. As can be seen in my unit plans, the extensive balanced use of the workshop model with conferring and journaling was included in my unit from the beginning. What I did to revise the plan, then, was expand instances of these practices, and explain how, when, and why they would be used in the unit. This lesson features a background on the emergence of human cultures and the spread of anatomically modern humans across the globe. It was fun to create and research for the mapping exercise I built into the PowerPoint!
