A: It’s not negotiable, and it’s not based on your production, tenure, or how well you negotiate. Every single agent at eXp starts on the same 80/20 split with a $16,000 annual company-dollar cap, tracked from your personal anniversary date (not the calendar year). Once you’ve paid $16,000 in company dollar for the year, you move to 100% commission for the rest of that year. You only pay flat per-transaction fees, no more split.
So the real math isn’t “80/20 forever.” It’s “80/20 up to $16K, then you keep the rest.” Compare that to a split structure that never caps, and a full production year looks very different.
One-time: $149 startup fee (includes your first month’s cloud brokerage fee)
Monthly: $89.25 cloud brokerage fee with taxes, covers your tech stack (eXp World, Workplace, kvCORE (or another CRM offered), SkySlope) and funds ongoing training/education access.
Per transaction, before you cap: $25 broker review fee + $60 risk management fee (this is your E&O coverage). The risk management fee stops once you’ve paid $750 in it for the year.
Per transaction, after you cap: $250 capped transaction fee, dropping to $75 once you’ve paid $5,000 in capped transaction fees that year, plus the same $25 broker review fee.
No franchise fee. No desk fee. No office rent.
A: Completely separate. Revenue share is paid by the company, out of eXp’s revenue, not out of your commission split, to agents who sponsor other agents into eXp. It runs seven tiers deep: agents you personally sponsor sit in your Tier 1, agents they sponsor sit in your Tier 2, and so on down to Tier 7.
Tiers 1–3 are open to every agent from day one. Cap once, and Tiers 4–5 unlock for 13 months. Reach ICON status, and Tiers 6–7 unlock too.
Payouts run roughly $1,400+ per capping agent in Tier 1 alone, up to a combined $8,000 max per capping agent per year across all seven tiers. None of it comes out of the sponsored agent’s paycheck. Their split is exactly the same whether or not they have a sponsor.
A: When you join eXp, you name a sponsor, usually the person who introduced you to the company. That relationship is what plugs you into the revenue-share structure above. It costs you nothing and has zero effect on your commission split.
But choose wisely! Different sponsors have different offerings. My team actually left eXp and came back because we saw how strong a different line was and we wanted access to those resources. Best decision ever. Feel free to ask me more about that.
A: When you join eXp, you have the ability to now name two people instead of one: a primary sponsor and a co-sponsor. The idea is simple: instead of leaning on a single leader, you get two, ideally with different strengths (say, one who is great at marketing and one who is strong on operations or building a team).
It costs you nothing and does not touch your commission split, exactly like regular sponsorship.
On the money side, your primary sponsor still earns the deeper revenue-share tiers (levels 2–7), stock awards, and FLQA qualifications, while the co-sponsor earns level-1 revenue share plus a “Fast Start” bonus (50% of revenue share on your production in your first year).
For you as the new agent, the payoff is more support from day one; for the two sponsors, it is a way to collaborate instead of compete. eXp launched this in May 2025, the first time in company history that a new agent could choose two sponsors.
A: eXp’s top annual recognition, and it pays out in company stock. You qualify one of two ways: cap for the year and close 20 more transactions before your anniversary date, or hit $500,000 in GCI with at least 10 transactions and pay the ICON qualifying fee.
Once approved, you receive $8,000 in restricted stock (AGNT, Nasdaq-listed). Stay in good cultural standing for a year and you pick up another $4,000. Attend both of eXp’s annual events in person and you earn the final $4,000.
All of it vests after three years, as long as you’re still exclusively licensed with eXp when it vests.
A: eXp was founded in 2009 by Glenn Sanford as the first fully cloud-based national real estate brokerage: no brick-and-mortar branch offices, no franchise fees, no desk fees. Training, broker support, and day-to-day collaboration happen through eXp World, eXp’s browser-based virtual campus.
That lower overhead is a big part of how eXp affords a capped split, revenue share, and stock programs: costs a traditional brokerage’s office and franchise fees would otherwise eat up.
Today the parent company, now named AGNT, Inc. (Nasdaq: AGNT), formerly eXp World Holdings, has roughly 83,000 agents worldwide and has been publicly traded since 2013.
A: Not in the traditional sense: there’s no local branch you’re expected to check into. Everything broker-related runs through eXp World instead. There are flex Regus shared office spaces that eXp agents can work in, too.
A: eXp World is eXp’s own browser-based virtual campus, no VR headset, nothing to download beyond a browser. You get an avatar and can walk into training auditoriums, a Tech Support building for live help, broker offices, and staff meeting rooms.
It runs 40+ hours of live training every week on top of an on-demand library, and it’s where a lot of day-to-day agent support happens in real time.
A: eXp University runs the live weekly classes inside eXp World, 40+ hours a week between live sessions, guest speakers, and workshops, plus an on-demand library you can revisit anytime.
On top of that, PHG runs its own recurring education including workshops and masterminds, covering real topics like lending strategy, ADUs, and some of it is CE-credit content, taught by agents and outside experts, not just eXp corporate material.
A: Yes, automatically, if you’ve closed fewer than 3 transactions in the prior 12 months. eXp pairs you 1:1 with a certified, experienced mentor for your first 3 transactions.
During that window, the split adjusts (roughly 60% to you, 10% to your mentor, 10% to the program, 20% to eXp) before you move to the standard 80/20. It ends automatically after those first 3 closings, it’s not a permanent arrangement.
The mentee officially “graduates” once they complete the mentee training and required number of transactions.
A: Inside eXp World, support you can speak directly to technical support, transaction support, accounting or a broker team member to get your questions answered.
With Platinum Home Group, you get all of the eXp level support plus a direct line into your team members to pick their brains about anything that comes up, or just to vent about real estate (or other) stuff.
A: Glenn Sanford founded eXp Realty in October 2009, rebuilding the brokerage model from scratch after the 2008 crash to strip out office and franchise overhead.
eXp World Holdings, the parent company, went public in 2013 and trades on Nasdaq, as of May 2026 under the ticker AGNT (the parent renamed itself AGNT, Inc. that month; it previously traded as EXPI).
As of year-end 2025, eXp had roughly 83,000 agents worldwide. It’s not a startup experiment at this point, it’s an established, publicly traded, audited company, which matters if you want to see real financials before making a move.
A: Both are great options. Platinum Home Group (PHG) is a self-formed team formed in late 2021.
You can join as an individual agent. Teams can also join under Platinum Home Group. It is up to the individual/team whether or not they want to utilize the Platinum Home Group logos, etc.
We have some “team members” who have joined our team for the camaraderie and support, but still utilize their own logo and business name. And that’s 100% fine.
You can bring your whole team in under our team if you’d like. You can join yourself and utilize all of our branding, too. Whatever works best for you.
We don’t share commissions on our team. Your clients are your clients, same with your paychecks! We do share in collaboration, event planning, learning, and friendship though!
A: PHG leans collaborative rather than competitive. There’s an explicit no-scarcity-mindset culture, and agents share templates, strategies, and referrals rather than guarding them.
The team is majority women (not by design, just how it’s shaken out, everyone is welcome).
We organize monthly happy hours (4–6pm, third Thursday, rotating restaurants in/around Highlands Ranch) and a regular masterminds/workshops with rotating hosts and outside sponsors or speakers.
We also host client events together a few times a year. One of the big ones is the Thanksgiving Pie pick-up, which has been very well attended.
A: eXp regularly brings on established teams intact. They keep their own brand and internal structure while gaining eXp’s capped split, revenue share, and stock programs; eXp has named team-plan structures built for exactly this.
We can help you customize your experience to what will work best for your team.
