The impact of music education on students is profound.

Music does more than just make sounds, it changes the way we think and act. The skills your child will learn in music will help them be successful in the classroom, in college, and in their future career.

What is Band?

Message from the director:

The SBHS Instrumental Music program has existed for well over 100 years. Our powerhouse program offers marching band, drumline, color guard, concert band, orchestra, and two jazz bands to all students. We are the only high school music program in the district to offer yearly overnight marching band trips, annual visits to the University of Nevada Reno Jazz Festival, and concert band-orchestra field trips to Walt Disney Concert Hall. Stellar performances and trips aside, many believe music is just about making sound. However, science shows us that music education changes the way we think and act. It makes us better people, it makes us smarter people, it gives us college and career readiness and it blesses us with lifelong friends and family. Join ours today.

Alumni Testimonials

“Music has been a huge part of my life, it has prepared me academically and personally from all the hard work, and teamwork that is needed in a band. I also learned leadership skills through my years in the music program, from learning to follow my older peers, to then one day also having to set the example for the future to come. Music has also shaped my creativity and ability to think outside my comfort zone. Which I think is something needed in life to push for success and find what our potential is. It has most importantly created powerful bonds of friendship between my peers and I because we all went through this endeavor to create music together. It has created important, powerful, and beautiful memories to cherish forever.”

“Band was and is my family, and I’m glad to grow with them, as a person and musically.”
