Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that effects over 50 million people worldwide.
Normally, brain function is found when electrical charges pass from the brain to other regions of the body. However, an individual afflicted with epilepsy finds that their electrical charges may be interrupted by irregular bursts of electrical energy that are much more intense than usual. They may affect a person’s awareness, bodily movements, or sensations for a short time.
Epilepsy conditions can vary in severity and responsiveness to treatment.
If someone is having a seizure remember these steps:
Stay Calm - this is a life or death situation, so panicking is the worst thing to do
Push away hard surfaces and sharp objects or carefully move the individual away from harm
MOST IMPORTANT - Turn them on their side. This prevents choking by clearing their airway
