I've always loved science, but choosing just one subject to study took a while. I am fascinated by how changes propagate from the environment to an individual and back again. During my undergraduate studies, this propelled me into ecological studies. Still, these same interactions exist among individual cells within an organism and even among genes within a genome. Studying the latter was the focus of my graduate work and my introduction to computational biology. As I continue my research, I strive to integrate the "big picture" ecological thinking and the "digital synthesis" of computational biology. This approach has paved the way for many exciting new projects and rewarding collaborations.
There's way more in and around us than we can ever know, but taking pictures is an excellent way to see where we've been. I've curated some of my favorite data from my studies and photos from my travels below. I hope you'll appreciate them as much as I do. – Jay
