John (Xuefeng) Jiang Ph.D., is the Eli Broad Endowed Professor of Accounting and Information Systems at Michigan State University, with a courtesy appointment in Finance and an affiliation with the MSU College of Law. He serves as an Associate Editor at Management Science and will serve as an Editor at The Accounting Review from 2026 to 2029. He has served as President of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section (FARS) of the American Accounting Association and is currently Past President.
Professor Jiang studies how information and regulation shape behavior and outcomes in financial markets and healthcare systems, with a focus on how institutions and individual decision-makers respond to disclosure, oversight, and enforcement. His research has received the American Accounting Association’s Distinguished Contribution to Accounting Literature Award and support from the National Institute for Health Care Management.
His research has been cited over 5,000 times and referenced in joint federal rulemaking by the U.S. Departments of Treasury, Labor, and Health & Human Services. It has also been cited by an SEC Commissioner and the Chair of the PCAOB, and presented to senior regulators at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. His findings have been covered by major media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, NPR, Reuters, and Forbes.
An award-winning teacher and mentor, he has been recognized multiple times as Outstanding Teacher of the Year. His doctoral students have placed into tenure-track positions at leading universities in the United States and abroad. He has passed the Uniform CPA examinations in both the United States and China.
