A great introduction to tennis and to build skills, this clinic is for ages 5 - 8. Younger children in this age group should be comfortable playing competitively with older children. If not, perhaps try out a private lesson to get younger kids (as young as 3 year olds) more comfortable. Every week the lesson focuses on a different tennis skill (schedule rotation of 10 of lesson plans), but the goal of every class is finish up playing tennis with on court coaching. Every class typically has multiple coaches on court teaching players as they play games. This clinic is a great introduction for kids planning to play rec tennis, elementary school teams, USTA Junior Team Tennis and Red Ball tournament tennis. No tennis experience is required, but experienced players that have never received formal instruction with benefit from this clinic. Students will improve hand/foot eye coordination, athletic movements, basic racket skills, score keeping, rules, tennis etiquette and sportsmanship. This training will include some low intensity workouts with lots of running, jumping, footwork agility, ball tossing/throwing and racket/rope swing games. Instructors will teach USTA quick start match play on the 36 foot Quick Start court using red stage 3 felt tennis balls. We teach match play using paragraph II.E.2 and II.E.1.i on page 2 of the USTA regulations for Red Ball. 19 and 21 inch rackets are available for use at each clinic. Wear comfortable clothes and tennis court shoes. Bring hat, sunglasses, water and towel. Use sunscreen before court time. Please arrive early and be on court ready to go at start time.
