As an administrator, I strive to involve stakeholders when creating a vision and mission for a school and I ensure that the vision and mission are carried out and celebrated by all. School goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely, but more importantly need to be developed collaboratively.
Placing an emphasis on 21st century skills, I assist in curriculum design and promote collaboration between colleagues to ensure a positive school climate and a school culture that promotes student and professional growth. Too many times, collaboration in professional development is often overlooked, and I would strive to ensure teachers have common planning time for curricular and lesson development.
Recognizing that staff input is vital in managing the school, I empower staff members to be leaders and assist in decision making for the "big picture" ideas within the school while maintaining all day-to-day operations and resources of the school including budget and human resources.
The greater community can influence the success of our students as long as we allow them to partner with the school to assist our students achieve their long term goals and help our school achieve its mission and vision. Community outreach is vital in order to leave community members empowered and develop respect for the school and district.
I promote respect and equality among all members of the school community and act with integrity when dealing with ethical situations by ensuring effective communication between all parties necessary. Inevitably, ethical, moral and legal issues will arise, but dealing with each one with respect, confidentiality and importance will be key to a quick and appropriate resolution.
I like to utilize the latest research to ensure that students are being advocated for so that they receive the highest quality education all while ensuring I demonstrate empathy and respect for all members of the school community. Keeping abreast of trends in education and utilizing the most up-to-date technology ultimately makes education better.
Science Department Schedule - In this activity, I was able to construct the schedule for the Science Department for the 2019-2020 School Year. In addition, I assisted with the creation of the schedule again for the 2020-20 21 school year.
Freshman Orientation - In this activity, organizing an event for the freshman after their orientation was paramount, as well as assisting the administration in the execution of the orientation, including assigning coverages for teacher who could not be in attendance
Reorganization of Back to School Night - In this activity, I proposed a revision to how Back to School Night should be conducted for the High School level. While this was proposed for the 2019 school year, the framework for this activity came in handy for the 2020 school year due to Covid-19.
SITE Council - As part of this project, I was responsible for the overall governance of our school improvement team.
21st Century Classroom - This project took a look at remaking a space in our media center into a "maker space" with flexible seating options.
Activities with and for Students - There are numerous activities as part of this project. For one, acting as an administrator on an overnight trip was a large portion of this assignment. Additionally, I was able to create a chapter of the NAACP at Williamstown High School, which has since been absorbed into our African American Cultural Society, investigate our athletic teams for Title IX compliance, observe and reflect on disciplinary investigations and assist in conducting HIB investigations. However, I took an active role in counseling our Senior students who were in danger of failing courses for the year.
Graduation Activities - This project was rewarding to me because it represents the culmination of every school year, with the recognition and commencement of students from high school. I was afforded the opportunity to act as an administrator at various events during the graduation season, such as our senior picnic, graduation cap decoration and check, graduation practices and finally our graduation ceremony.
Various School-Wide Activities - In this project, I created a handbook for class advisors, revised our emergency procedures manual and created an electronic version of it, assisted with budget and PD for the science department, ran a workshop on Google Apps for Education for my colleagues, and created an electronic sign in for students that was ultimately not used when it was created but was expanded upon for use during our return to school in the midst of Covid-19.
