As an undergraduate I was on an iGEM team and since then I've been passionate about making and sharing biotech. I completed a PhD in synthetic biology in 2019 with Prof Frank Sargent at University of Dundee and Newcastle University, where I advised a few iGEM teams (the photo up top is the Dundee Schools team from 2016), and supervised some undergraduate students on cool biotech projects.
Since completing my PhD, I've been working as a post-doc in the Hub for Biotech in the Built Environment at Northumbria University. My research is on developing synbio tools for handling and upgrading municipal solid waste. I've continued to contribute towards bringing up the next generation of biotechnologists by tutoring the HBBE's Biodesign Challenge teams in 2020.
Currently, at work I am focussing on fundamental research projects. In my own time I'm on the team organising the European Community Bio Virtual Pilgrimage, a monthly community bio meet-up for the European region and Project BioBank, a resource sharing initiative for community bio.
