Biography

John Qi Dong is Associate Professor with tenure and Assistant Dean (Education Transformation) at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is an associate editor for Information Systems Research, along with being a former associate editor for MIS Quarterly which named him "Outstanding Associate Editor", and serving as a senior editor for Journal of the Association for Information Systems with the honor of "Senior Editor of the Best Paper". Currently, he is also an associate editor for MIS Quarterly Special Issue on Ethics, Regulation, and Policy and a guest editor for Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal Special Issue on Entrepreneurial Decisions in the Digital Age. He obtained a PhD in Information Systems from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and worked as a tenured faculty at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland and University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and deeply engages in MBA, Executive Education and PhD programmes. He is the founding director of "Global Leadership Programme for Senior Executives Integrated with AI" and taught for Fortune 500 companies such as Amazon, Aramco, and Bank of China. He conducts research on AI strategy, digital transformation, digital innovation, and business value of IT. He has published his work in premier journals in information systems, management and marketing, such as Information Systems Research, Journal of Marketing, MIS Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Information Systems. His publications have received more than 10000 citations according to Google Scholar, and Stanford University listed him in the World's Top 1% Scientists (ranked no. 128 in 18546 information systems scholars in 2025).

He is an award-winning scholar and recipient of the Research Excellence Award from Nanyang Business School in 2025, the Senior Editor Award from Journal of the Association for Information Systems in 2025, the Best Paper in Track Award and the Strategic Management SIG Best Paper Award at European Academy of Management Conference in 2025, the Best Paper in Track Award at Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems in 2024, the Association for Information Systems Mid-Career Award in 2023, the Outstanding Associate Editor Award from MIS Quarterly in 2022, the Professorial Fellowship of Trinity College Dublin in 2022, the Research Excellence Award from Trinity Business School in 2021, the Best Short Paper Award (finalist) at International Conference on Information Systems in 2021, the Association for Information Systems Early Career Award in 2020, the Best Paper Award (finalist) at Strategic Management Society Special Conference in 2018, the Outstanding Junior Researcher Award from University of Groningen Faculty of Economics and Business in 2017, the OCIS Division Best Paper Award (1st runner-up) at Academy of Management Annual Meeting in 2015, and the Dean's PhD Fellowship for Research Excellence from HKUST Business School in 2013.
