In this body of work, the natural meets the otherworldly and celebration meets interrogation. Within the organic forms and surfaces one may see desert landscapes, stretch marks, flower petals, labia, fruit, hills and valleys, and bodily forms. These organic forms and textures are juxtaposed with refined metallic surfaces in which viewers may see themselves and their backgrounds reflected. Through the use of these opposing surfaces, my work seeks to evoke the tension of transformation experienced through pregnancy, labor & delivery, parenthood, and shifts in time and seasons. I celebrate the innate power of women as creators of life, while also interrogating our place in a patriarchal society and its consequences related to shame, oppression, body image, and autonomy.
