I enjoy teaching across levels: from first-year undergraduates being introduced to the foundations of probability, to master's students grappling with more advanced statistical frameworks. I try to bring conceptual clarity, curiosity, and even a bit of humour into the classroom.ย
I have taught and developed undergraduate courses with the following focus at both the University of Pretoria and Wits University over the past few years:
Mathematical Statistics I, II
Applied Regression Analysis
Multivariate Analysis
Time Series Analysis
I have taught and developed postgraduate courses with the following focus over the past few years:
Advanced Multivariate Analysis
Data science and Visualisation
Biostatistics
Sampling Theory and Techniques
I try to meet students where they are while nudging them toward deeper insight. My approach balances:
Formal rigour with accessible explanations
Visual or computational intuition alongside theoretical results
Encouraging active learning and open questions
Supporting both strong and struggling students with tailored input
Teaching is one of the most rewarding parts of academic life, and a space where I continue to learn myself.
I have been fortunate to receive the following recognition of my teaching experience in recent years:
Nominated for Departmental Teaching Excellence Award (Department of Statistics, University of Pretoria) โ October 2017.
Awarded the Department of Statistics Teaching Excellence Award (Department of Statistics, University of Pretoria) โ November 2018.
Nominated as Best Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (one of four nominees) at the University of Pretoria, November 2019.
Awarded the Cluster Teaching Award in Mathematical Sciences โ Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, University of Pretoria โ November 2024.
Receiving the Teaching Excellence Award in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at UP in November 2024, with colleague Dr Seite Makgai
