· 2021-Present, Instructor for intermediate/ advanced political sciences courses including State Governance and Policy, Introduction to Public Policy, and Careers in Political Science. Teach the summer Badger Summer Scholars course, and serve on Wisconsin in Washington, DC program advisory committee.
· From 2014-2021, as director of professional development taught four career courses per year, in-person, online and hybrid, for Political Science, Sociology, and International Studies. Provided professional development advising and topical workshops for approximately 1600 students in three majors, sponsored various career events and workshops, and coordinated with departmental chairs and faculty, and the College of L & S, on full spectrum of student/employment career activities. These included class guest lectures on student professional development, mock and informational interviews, career exploration panels, alumni networking events, and employer career fairs. Participated in various committees and projects at the departmental and college level to include work for the Political Science and Sociology alumni Boards of Visitors, SuccessWorks career center, Wisconsin in Washington Logistics Committee, and Career Services Council (CSC).
· Drafted the initial proposal and worked with a small faculty team to gain the UW Chancellor’s approval and seed funding for a new, year-round, campuswide Wisconsin in Washington DC program (2016).
· In 2015, wrote and directed a successful Baldwin Wisconsin Idea large grant, called Badger Reach, which designed and implemented paid ‘impactful internship’ programs in Milwaukee, Chicago and the Twin Cities for the summers of 2016 and 2017. Focus was on acute areas of need including law/social justice, civic participation/voting, education/social welfare, and environment/urban design. Director roles included advertising, student selection and advising, and coordination with city partner organizations, UW alumni and employers to sponsor mid-summer student workshops and networking events in each city.
· Designed and taught a summer course with professional development activities for a two-week program, UW Badger Summer Scholars. Interactions with high school students includes teaching the summer 2021 and 2022 course, ‘Poverty, Politics, and Pandemic,’ and facilitating class visits with staff professionals from US House and Senate Offices, Wisconsin state legislative and executive offices, and prominent NGO and advocacy leaders.
· In coordination with faculty in Sociology and the UW Institute for Research on Poverty, helped design, launch, and serve as Internship Director for the UW/Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty summer internship program. Duties included program advertising and recruitment, student selection, and individualized advising to prepare students for internship placements in 30 cities and rural localities in the Eastern and Southern U.S. In the summer 2020, taught the online ‘The Geography of Poverty in a Pandemic’ required course to SHECP students from various universities (2018-2021).
· Helped design and implement the inaugural UW UniverCity Year Project Internship program. Provided leadership in program design, recruitment, selection, and paid internships for students placed in various local government agencies throughout Wisconsin (2021).
· In response to changing trends in student career development, influenced by the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, created and implemented a ‘My e-Portfolio @ UW-Madison,’ professional learning program, and a ‘Career Coach’ resource toolkit for the Departments of Sociology and Political Science, and International Studies majors.
· Coordinated and taught in Madison and DC (summer) the UW Political Science in DC program. Facilitated placement of 25 students in DC summer 2015 and 2016 internships, to include placements in corporate, nonprofit, and government offices. Redesigned program curriculum and recruiting/selection processes. Managed alumni-funded scholarship applications and award processes and the student/alumni mentorship program.
2011-2014 DIRECTOR OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
University of California, Washington Center, Washington, D.C.
· Created and implemented programs at the system-wide, nine-campus UC Washington Center to facilitate student internships and employment programs, and to engage visiting faculty, alumni and internship employers. Programs included workshops, visiting faculty consultations and orientations, alumni panels, alumni mentorships, research presentations/conferences, individualized student advising, and compilation/dissemination of electronic resources for students, faculty, employers and administration.
2010-2014 WASHINGTON DIRECTOR/ ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
University of Mississippi, Washington Internship Experience, Washington, D.C.
· In coordination with the Trent Lott Leadership Institute and UM Outreach, helped design and launch intensive academic internship program. Served as principal student, employer and faculty liaison assisting with recruitment and credit/financial aid packages, and assisting applicants to identify optimal internship options and develop competitive applications. Taught the Washington Policy Process core seminar each semester, coordinated alumni activities/interactions and participated in campus student recruiting and program oversight.
· Responsible for campus outreach to department chairs and faculty, and to student groups and organizations, to promote diverse program opportunities and facilitate logistics including credit arrangements, individualized programs of study, and shared programming involving office of federal relations and the Congressional Black Caucus.
· Coordinated UM School of Law summer DC internships and related student public-service projects.
· Assisted with UM New York City Summer Internship placements, and taught the required NYC summer internship/professional development course.

· Directed Washington program enrolling 60 fall and spring semester students. Responsibilities included campus recruiting, admissions, program scholarships, outreach, program/ housing administration, instruction and professional development for juniors/seniors from all majors.
· Coordinated UC Washington system-wide electives course consortium to include Universities of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Notre Dame, along with UC Berkeley and Merced. Responsibilities included formal hiring of visiting faculty including drafting and completion of visiting faculty contracts, review of proposed syllabi, consultations with visiting instructors and graduate teachings assistants, and scheduling of classes.
· Collaborated with DC Cal Alumni on fundraising and student mentoring initiatives, supporting the continuation of the ’68 Cal Alumni’ and Robert T. Matsui annual scholarships for Cal DC students.
· Developed funding and other initiatives with Cal in the Capital program and Center for Campus Life and Leadership to broaden student interest/involvement in public service.
· Co-coordinated the Robert T. Matsui Fellowship for Public Service and Center on Democracy and Democratic Civility scholarship programs.
· Helped coordinate the UC Washington Director’s Forum public speaker series.

· Directed Washington, DC program that enrolled 120 students a year from 14 universities in the North Carolina university system, including five Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
· Collaborated with various campus units including academic departments, registrars, financial aid, career services, and honors programs. Co-chaired the UNC in Washington advisory committee of 14 campus faculty directors.
· Responsible for placing students in internships, organizing program events and activities including career panel events, directing office staff and program budgets, and overseeing student life and housing administration.
· Prior to directing the Summer 2005 inaugural program worked as consultant with UNC General Administration and individual campuses to design and launch the program, including setting program goals, creating program materials including syllabi, recruiting students, and serving on faculty selection committees.

Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. Grant Project Director, UW-Madison. “Badger Reach: Impactful Summer Internships in Milwaukee, Chicago and the Twin Cities.” For this two-summer project ($70,000), wrote grant application and secured partnerships with organizations in each city and collaboration of three-cities based UW-Madison alumni. Facilitated internship placements and directed spring preparatory workshops for up to 18 Fellows and a mid-summer workshop in each city hosted by our city partners, attended by students, UW faculty, internship employers, and alumni. Project co-organized by UWMadison Departments of Sociology and Political Science, (2015).
