Round 3 of the pen building lab.
In this lab me and 5 other students split up into groups of two, where we each came up with ideas and made our own system flow. Running several rounds we made quick improvements in attempt to make our process more efficient. we also switched operators from each student group to test each others processes, and see how hard they were to follow. Towards round 3 we all decided on the best process of the 3 groups, and decided to standardize all 3 groups in that way. In the end our times per group were significantly more consistent, and within about 6 seconds of each other.
Some key takeaways/things we learned:
How standardizing can make processes more efficient, and and consistent.
2. How to work together to find inconsistencies, defects, ways to improve the process, etc.
3. Have a continuous improvement attitude.
4. had a hands-on experience to really illustrate the things we were learning in lean.
And so much more!

Improvement steps:
Step 1:
We started by arranging the bins and the different parts in sequential order for an easy flow. keeping the colors of pen tops, and pen bottoms, in the same order on both sides.
Step 2:
We then made a few things vertical by sticking them into foam, mainly the longer shaped parts. As well as placing tape down to secure the foam to the table.
Step 3:
We added more tape, placed everything on the same strip of foam, and made standard work instructions with big visuals. As well as marking arrows on the tape to show the direction of flow, and making sure parts were placed in sequential order.
Step 4:
Adding even more tape, and mounting the instructions for easier readability. As well as placing bright yellow tape underneath the black rings to help them contrast better against the dark foam, (Not shown in picture).
